About Bogi Olsen
I was born and raised in the Faroe Islands. I've hiked all of the mountains, driven all of the roads, and spent more early mornings on clifftops than I can count. These islands aren't a destination for me – they're home.
Photography has always been part of my life. As a teenager I was developing film and making black and white prints in a darkroom. Life got in the way for a while – as it does – but when my wife and I started hiking every mountain in the Faroe Islands, I always had a camera in my hand. That's when it became something I couldn't stop thinking about.
My work has been featured by National Geographic Your Shot twice on Instagram – an Editor's Pick photo in 2021, and a reel shared on both @natgeoyourshot and @natgeotravel in October 2025. Both images are of places I know by heart, seen by a combined audience of tens of thousands of people around the world.
In 2022 I completed the official Faroese Tour Guide certification – a year-long programme of around 200 hours covering Faroese history, culture, geology, nature and storytelling. Classroom and fieldwork combined. It means I can answer the questions that only someone who's grown up here can answer.
I'm also listed as a recommended guide on the official Visit Faroe Islands website.
I'm fluent in Faroese, Danish and English.
When I'm out guiding, there's a moment I always look forward to – stepping back and watching everyone work. Different people, different cameras, different eyes – all fully absorbed in the same landscape. Showing people my islands, telling the stories behind the places, and seeing it land – that's what this is really about for me.
"Without a doubt the most knowledgeable, able and well informed guide to the Faroe Islands you could possibly wish for. The added bonus is that Bogi is also great fun and fantastic company." — Rupert Gibson ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
