Two Sunset Moments – Two National Geographic Features

Every photographer dreams of seeing their work recognized by National Geographic. For me, that dream came true not once, but twice. Both times, it happened right here in my own backyard – in the Faroe Islands.

My first feature on National Geographic YourShot showed a calm sunset just five minutes from my home. I’ve always loved this view – two sharp mountain peaks standing side by side like pyramids. I sometimes joke that they’re our own “Faroese Pharaohs”. The light that evening was soft and golden, and everything just fell into place.

This year - 2025, I received another surprise:

NatGeo YourShot shared a second image of mine, and even NatGeo Travel reposted it.

This time, I captured a fiery sunset from my balcony overlooking the small village of Nes, Eysturoy.

The photo shows an old red house with a green metal roof – a building style that’s almost disappeared here – perfectly framed under glowing clouds.

It was one of those nights where you simply stop and admire what nature gives you.
