Guided by Local Expertise

I'm Bogi Olsen, your native Faroese photographer and guide.

I was born and raised here – these islands are my home. I've been photographing these landscapes my entire life and know them inside and out: the hidden spots only locals know about, the best light at different times of year, and how to read the weather patterns that sweep across the Atlantic.

On this exclusive small-group tour of just 5 participants, you'll get my full attention and the kind of authentic local insight that can only come from a lifetime of exploring every corner of these islands.

This intimate setting means more personalized guidance, deeper one-on-one instruction, and a better experience for everyone. You're not just another face in a crowd – you're part of a small group of passionate photographers on a shared adventure.

Spring in the Faroe Islands – A Photographer's Dream

April in the Faroes is special. The weather is transitioning from winter's harshness – you'll still catch some dramatic moody conditions with around 65mm of rain and 11 wet days, but the wind is calming down (averaging 18 mph, much gentler than winter's gales). You can read more about the weather here

The skies start clearing around mid-April, giving you better light and more shooting opportunities. The landscapes are waking up with fresh green growth, and you get that perfect mix of dramatic Faroese mood with improving conditions.

This isn't just about taking photos; it's about connecting with one of the world's most raw and beautiful places during a transition period that offers unique photographic opportunities.

Pack your gear, bring solid rain protection, and get ready to create images and memories you'll treasure forever.

Beyond the Camera: A True Faroese Experience

Heimablídni – An Evening in a Faroese Home

One evening, you'll join my wife and me at our home for a traditional 3-course Faroese dinner featuring fresh, local salmon as the centerpiece.

This heimablídni experience – the cherished Faroese tradition of welcoming guests into our home – is something you simply won't find on other photography tours.

It's not just a meal. It's an evening of stories, laughter, and genuine connection. You'll taste authentic Faroese cooking, hear about island life from people who've lived it for generations, and experience the warmth of true Faroese hospitality.

This is exclusive to this tour. You won't find this cultural depth on any other standard photography tour.

When Weather Keeps Us Indoors

The Faroes are unpredictable, and sometimes the weather just doesn't cooperate. When that happens, we'll use the time for hands-on editing sessions.

I'll sit down with you and help with your post-processing – whether you're working in Lightroom, Photoshop, or another program. We'll go through your images together, and I'll share the techniques I use to bring out the mood and drama in Faroese landscapes.

We'll also fire up my Canon Selphy CP1500 and print one of your favorite shots from the week. There's something special about seeing your image come to life as a physical print – it's a great way to evaluate your work and a nice keepsake to take home with you.

Tour Itinerary: Flexible & Chasing the Light

Our Faroe Islands photography tour doesn't follow a rigid schedule, and that's the secret to great images. With my local knowledge and understanding of how the weather moves here, we'll constantly adjust our plans to put you in the right place at the right time. This flexibility means you'll capture the islands at their absolute best.

Accommodation: Hotel Føroyar

We'll be staying at the 4-star Hotel Føroyar, which serves as our perfect base. Most shooting locations are within 30-60 minutes, and few are more than an hour away.

Who Is This Workshop For?

This workshop welcomes everyone – whether you're just starting out or you've been shooting for years. We'll work on refining your composition, nailing your technique, and building the kind of knowledge that helps you walk away with images you're genuinely proud of. If you're passionate about landscape photography and want to explore new locations while improving your craft, this is for you.

Day-by-Day Journey

Day 1 – Arrival Day: We'll meet you at Vagar Airport (FAE) and make the short drive to our accommodation. Depending on when everyone arrives, we often squeeze in a sunrise shoot to kick things off. Then we'll settle in, go over the plan for the week, and get an early night to be fresh for the adventure ahead.

Days 2 to 7 – Full Immersion: Each day starts early with sunrise photography (we arrive about an hour before sunrise). After breakfast and a quick break, we head out to explore different locations, working on techniques like long exposure and composition. Lunch is usually on the go so we can maximize our time shooting. We'll arrive at our sunset spot an hour early to scout and make sure we're ready for golden hour. Over these 7 days, we'll be out there photographing in all conditions – rain, shine, wind, or fog. That's the Faroese way!

Day 8 – Departure Day: Early morning transfer to the airport for your flight home. Expect plenty of hugs, final goodbyes, and a camera full of incredible images. This workshop is designed to be fun, flexible, educational, and genuinely engaging from start to finish.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this Faroe Islands photography tour suitable for beginners?
Absolutely. This workshop welcomes all skill levels, from complete beginners to experienced photographers. I provide hands-on guidance tailored to your level, helping you improve composition, master shooting techniques, and understand how to work with Faroese light and weather. You'll leave with images you're proud of and skills you can use anywhere.

What makes this tour different from other Faroe Islands photography workshops?
I'm a native Faroese photographer who's explored these islands my entire life. I know the hidden locations, the best times for light, and how to read the rapidly changing weather. With only 5 participants, you get personalized attention and the kind of local insight that visiting guides simply can't offer. We go where the conditions are best, not where the schedule says.

Will I really get to photograph locations most tourists never see?
Yes. Beyond the iconic spots, I'll take you to hidden gems and lesser-known viewpoints that only locals know about. I've hiked every mountain and explored countless trails over the years, building knowledge of locations that don't appear in guidebooks or on Instagram.

What if the weather is bad during the tour?
Bad weather doesn't exist in Faroese photography – only dramatic conditions. April brings dynamic weather that creates powerful images: moody skies, dramatic light, and atmospheric conditions. My deep knowledge of the islands means we'll always be in the right place when the light breaks through. That's when magic happens.
