Faroe Islands Photography Workshop
Winter Light & Empty Landscapes | March 15 - 22, 2027
DKK: 29.750,- * | 8 Days / 7 Nights | 12 participants max. | 2 Guides - 1:6 guide ratio | Hotel Føroyar Included
A Faroe Islands landscape photography workshop led by native Faroese photographer Bogi Olsen and international workshop leader Richard Watson.
Late winter in the Faroe Islands. Snow on the peaks. Waterfalls at full force. Locations that are far quieter than they will be in two months.
If you've been waiting for the right moment to photograph the Faroes seriously - this is it.
Why March
Winter is the Faroe Islands' best-kept secret.
Most photographers come in summer - long days, green valleys, the classic shots. But March is different. Snow may still sit on the higher peaks. The golden hour stretches longer and lower across the landscape. Waterfalls run at full force. March offers around 11-12 hours of daylight, fast-moving Atlantic weather systems, and some of the most dramatic light conditions of the year in the Faroe Islands
And the islands are quiet. Most operators avoid March - that's exactly why we run it - no one else at the locations you're standing in.
If you've seen the Faroes before, March will show you a side you haven't. If this is your first time — you're starting at the deep end, in the best possible way.

Richard Watson
IRISH LANDSCAPE & TRAVEL PHOTOGRAPHER
Richard has led workshops across Europe, Central Asia, and beyond. He brings deep technical knowledge, a fast-paced field approach, and the kind of energy that keeps a group sharp from sunrise to sunset.
Together, Richard and Bogi have run two sold-out Faroe Islands workshops. This is the third.
The locations
A mix of the Faroe Islands' most iconic and least-visited spots - chosen around conditions, tide, and light. Past workshops have included:
Múlafossur & Gásadalur - The iconic waterfall village. In March, we look for the mist from the falls blowing back up the cliffs in the heavy Atlantic wind.
Trælanípa (Slave Cliff) - The famous "lake above the ocean." A dramatic perspective on the scale of the Faroese coastline.
Tindhólmur & Drangarnir - Jagged sea stacks that define the horizon. We’ll look for the perfect angle as the low winter sun hits the basalt spires.
Kallur Lighthouse, Kalsoy - One of the world’s most dramatic ridge-line viewpoints. A true "edge of the world" experience.
Saksun - A historic turf-roof village set above a tidal lagoon. Perfect for quiet, moody compositions and long exposures.
Tjørnuvík - A black-sand beach framed by steep mountains, facing the legendary Risin and Kellingin sea stacks.
Fossá & Bøsdalarfossur - The islands' most powerful waterfalls. In late winter, they run at full force, often framed by snow-dusted cliffs.
Eiði & Norðradalur - Vast moorlands and winding roads that offer some of the most expansive panoramas in the North Atlantic.
Leynasandur - A quiet, golden-sand beach that feels completely prehistoric. One of my favorite spots for minimalist seaside photography.
The Witches Finger (Trøllkonufingur) - A 313-meter basalt monolith on the Vágar coast that looks incredibly imposing in the flat, winter light.
Gjógv & Funningur - Classic Faroese architecture and deep natural gorges, offering sheltered spots when the weather gets wild.

Capped at 12 photographers | 2 guides | A 1:6 ratio throughout.
A few things people ask.
Is this suitable for beginners ?
Yes. Both guides adapt to every skill level. You'll get hands-on guidance whether you've just picked up a camera or you've been shooting landscapes for years.
What fitness level do I need ?
Moderate. Some locations involve 1–2 hour hikes on uneven terrain. In March expect possible snow, ice and mud. You don't need to be an athlete, but comfortable walking in outdoor conditions is essential.
What if the weather is bad ?
In the Faroes, dramatic conditions are often the point. Wind, fast-moving clouds and moody light are what make these images work. When conditions are genuinely unsafe we adjust the plan - but we're always somewhere worth photographing.
What equipment should I bring ?
After booking you'll join the group WhatsApp where Bogi and Richard share a full packing list. Solid waterproofs and good hiking boots are non-negotiable in March. Bring whatever camera system you shoot with.
Is this a tour or a workshop ?
It's a field-based photography workshop built around the best light, weather and conditions the Faroes can offer in March. You'll get hands-on guidance from both guides throughout the week – but always in the field, never in a classroom. The focus is on helping you come home with stronger images and a better understanding of how to work in dramatic conditions.
