Day 12 – Farewell to the Faroe Islands

28th October 2024

FAROE ISLANDS PHOTO TOUR

The final day of Richard’s visit to the Faroe Islands marked the end of an incredible journey. Over the past 12 days, we explored iconic landmarks, captured stunning photographs, and gathered invaluable insights for our upcoming 2025 Faroe Islands Landscape Photography Tour.

Morning: Packing and the Last Drive

After breakfast, Richard packed his gear, double-checked his photos, and loaded his backpack for the trip home. With some time to spare before his flight, we made sure the drive to the airport included a few more scenic stops—because no road trip in the Faroe Islands is complete without a final chance to soak in the epic landscapes.

Pit Stops on the Way

  1. Eysturoyar Subsea Tunnel and Roundabout
Our journey began through the remarkable Eysturoyar Subsea Tunnel, featuring the world’s only subsea roundabout, which is illuminated in an artistic light display inspired by Faroese nature. It’s not just a marvel of engineering but also a visually stunning experience.

  2. Norðadalsskarður Viewpoint
Next, we stopped at Norðadalsskarður, one of the Faroe Islands’ most iconic viewpoints. This location offers a winding road leading to the island of Koltur in the distance—a classic composition for photographers. Richard captured the iconic scene, and we lingered to enjoy the breathtaking panorama.

  3. Sornfelli Viewpoint
From there, we made our way to Sornfelli, a high-altitude vantage point with commanding views of the surrounding fjords and distant mountain peaks. The scale of the landscape is humbling, and it’s a spot that leaves a lasting impression on anyone lucky enough to visit.

Final Stop: Múlafossur Waterfall

Our last destination before heading to the airport was a return to the legendary Múlafossur Waterfall in Gásadalur. This was our third visit during Richard’s stay, but its allure never fades.

This time, Richard focused on capturing daytime shots with birds flying around the waterfall, adding a dynamic element to his compositions. With thousands of photos taken over the course of the trip, we hoped these final images would serve as the perfect conclusion to his portfolio of the Faroe Islands.

Farewell at the Airport

Arriving at Vágar Airport, we said our goodbyes and reflected on what had been a truly epic trip. From the jagged cliffs of Kallurin to the serene beaches of Syðrugøta, and the iconic sights of Drangarnir and Múlafossur, this visit had been a blend of adventure, artistry, and meticulous planning.

Reflections on the Journey

Despite challenging weather at times, the trip was a resounding success. Richard left with not only an impressive collection of photos but also a deeper understanding of the Faroe Islands’ landscapes and their unique challenges—a knowledge that will prove invaluable for next year’s Faroe Islands Landscape Photography Tour.

As I watched the plane take off, I felt both proud of what we had accomplished and excited for the adventures that lie ahead. Until next year, Faroe Islands!

Stay tuned for updates as we finalize preparations for the 2025 tour and share more insights into these breathtaking islands.
